Aitana Bonmati has been named The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2024.
By retaining the title she won for the first time last year, the Spain and Barcelona star becomes just the sixth player – after Mia Hamm, Carli Lloyd, Marta, Birgit Prinz and team-mate Alexia Putellas – to win FIFA’s top award for women’s football on more than once occasion.
Bonmati enjoyed another trophy-laden season for both club and country. On target in the final as Spain won the UEFA Women’s Nations League, she repeated that feat at club level with Barcelona as they claimed another UEFA Women’s Champions League title.
Named Player of the Season in the latter tournament, the 26-year-old also helped lead her club side to the domestic treble, winning a slew of further honours along the way.
Bonmati was up against no fewer than 15 fellow nominees, and topped the poll with 52 voting points, finishing ahead of Barbra Banda (39 points) and Caroline Graham Hansen (37 points), who ended the process in second and third place respectively.
